PostSubject: Survey underway of the Damage Locations.   Fri Jan 11, 2008 12:53 pm

An unseasonably warm and moist airmass was located across southern Alabama on the morning of January 10th. As a strong upper level trough approached from the west, this warm and moist airmass accelerated northward and encompassed all of Central Alabama by noon. Supercell thunderstorms then developed ahead of an approaching cold front and continued across Central Alabama through the early morning hours on January 11th. Numerous damage reports were received in association with these supercell thunderstorms.

***National Weather Service Meteorologist are in the process of surveying the damage locations. Information will be updated here when it becomes available.***

Does the NWS keep a different list from doppler indicated tornados and the ones that actually "touch" the ground? I have often wondered that as they will activate warnings based on radar rotation signatures

They do have a list of Severe Weather Reports that has occured in a area. When the NWS issues a Warning for a area, 97 percent of the time it's based on the radar. Thats where Storm Spotters come into play, to confirm the Severe Weather.
Other ways they get the info for their list is the damage thats done by severe weather. They will send a survey crew to the location to see what caused it. They get reports from the EMA, Law Enforcement, etc.
You can view the list at http://www.spc.noaa.gov/climo/ .

So no that don't have a list set aside just for radar, that i know of anyway.
